MSU-IIT | Palakasan 2011 | Showcase of Philippine Festivals

Fiesta has become part of the Philippine culture. History has it that during the Spanish colonization, each barangay has a patron saint whose birthday will be celebrated by the constituents of the community. To make the occasion more festive, dancing along the streets is a form of expression which signifies joy, thanksgiving and grand celebration.

One of the highlights of MSU-IIT Palakasan 2011 is the street dancing competition. It is a showcase of the various Philippine Festivals. On August 26, 2011, 8 schools and colleges proudly presented their dance performances reflecting specific festivals of the country.

Let’s take a glimpse to their colorful presentations:

CBAA represented Ati-Atihan dance of Kalibo Aklan

SET showcased Diyandi Festival of Iligan City

COE performed Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City

SCS showed Dalit Festival of Tangub City

CASS portrayed Pintados Festival of Leyte

CON danced Sinulog Festival of Cebu City

CED and IDS presented Hugyaw sa Kadagatan of Lanao del Norte

CSM entertained the audience with Masskara Festival of Bacolod City

All participants were well-applauded and everyone has his/her own bet. Indeed, the event was really amazing. Kudos to the organizers for a well-thought “avenue” of competition. WOW!!! was all I could say after the event. You can see in the faces of those who witnessed the street dancing competition with appreciation and affirmation that IITians can do it. Congratulations student participants, you have made us all proud.

While waiting for the announcement of winners, what colleges and/or schools do you think will make it to the top 3?
